--- 5th Generation --- Joseph Houghton was born on 18 Apr 1837 in Bedford, Mississquoi, Ontario, Canada, age 23, VT, in 1860 census; age 33, Can, in 1870 census; age 43 in 1880 census; son Wyman's 1920 census gives MI; Son Joseph's 1930 census gives bp of F as MI; Gary Houghton: 4 Apr 1837. He married Mary Jane Duffy in 18 Feb 1866 in DeKalb Co., IL, USA. He married Mary Malinda Tubb in 14 Jan 1884 in Cleburne, TX, USA. He died on 6 Mar 1906 in Weatherford, Parker Co., TX, USA, age 69 of a stroke at son Wyman's home.
Mary Jane Duffy was born in 1845 in OH, USA, age 24, OH, in 1870 census; 1920 census of son Wyman gives MI; 1930 census of son Wyman gives IL. She married Joseph Houghton, son of Jonathan Houghton Sr and Nancy Gilchrist, in 18 Feb 1866 in DeKalb Co., IL, USA. She died in Nov 1879 in Cleburne, Johnson Co., TX, USA, of typhoid fever.

He married Nancy Gilchrist in 30 Mar 1824 in Crosby, Leeds, Ontario, Canada, The hand-written marriage certificate of Jonathan Houghton and Nancy Gilchrist is glued to the inside back cover of the Houghton family Bible (in the possession of great-grandson Arvid R. Krasche of Woodward, IA, in 2001). It reads: These lines may Sertify (sic) to all whom it may Concern that I married Jonathan Houghton and Nancy Gilcreast (sic) in the Township of South Crosby in the County of Leeds District of Johnstown and in the Province of Upper Canada in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four. March 30th 1824. (signed) Elder Abel Stevens
Abel Stevens Sr. was a early settler who moved with his wife and family from Vermont in 1795 to Bastard township, Leeds County, Upper Canada. He was a Baptist Clergyman.
The Houghton Family Bible states that Jonathan's father's name was Joseph and his mothers name was Hannah. Also Lists Jonathan's and Nancy's sons and daughters names and date of birth.
The Bible was Jonathan and Nancy Family Bible Copyright 1859, was passed on to Jonathan Jr. and eventually to his great-grandson Arvid R. Krasche of Woodward, IA in 2001. He died on 15 Sep 1879 in Mayfield, Grand Traverse Co., MI, USA, at age 75y 7 m 5 d, of apoplexy; Gary Houghton: VT; Bordine: Sep 15, 1879, Grand Traverse Co. MI; Nugent: Sep 15, 1878, Mayfield MI; Houghton Bible: 15 Sep 1879. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Kingsley, MI, USA
