Always Learning has been helping my family since September 2009 when I discovered that homeschooling doesn't have to be school at home. I'm so grateful to the clear thinking and writing of Sandra and Joyce and the other experienced unschoolers in this group. You've been an incredibly valuable resource to us. I have such a  different, affectionate, trustful and joyful relationship with my  15 year old daughter than anyone else I know and it is because I discovered Always Learning one day while I was desperately searching for guidance on  how to homeschool.  Miriam

Thank you all very much. I am reading this mailinglist since 2009, but
I have to say - it was the reading of Sandras Big Book (after of
course reading for years her webpage) that really clicked with me. No
idea what the difference is for me between the web page and the book.
And I certainly still use the webpage, but eye-opening, life-changing
was for me the book. Thank you Sandra also for that.

Greetings from Italy, Tania

Thank you for writing this:  " I have such a  different, affectionate, trustful and joyful relationship with my  15 year old daughter than anyone else I know"

Every better relationship makes the world sweeter and stronger.  Seeing that there is the possibility of living without so much stress and negativity seems a small thing in a way, and a HUGE one in another.   I get stuck and flustered when I try to think of it clearly, still.   Tiny changes make big differences.

( "Tiny changes make big differences" ought to go into Just Add Light, I guess. :-) )

I'm glad to know that this discussion helped a 15 year old have a more peaceful life, and her mom, too.  I bet it spreads beyond those two, as well.

When I first started on that book, I expected to quote the best part of a page on my site, and link to it.  But many pages were too long, or were exchanges, or were the writings of other people, and there were way more pages than I could represent in one book.   So more than half of that book was new writing, and some of it was that sort of writing where I got in the flow and great summaries and new ideas were coming out.  There are many things there that I read and think "wow."  Some of it was really nice.

Some of it has been plagiarized, too, and it's harder to find that because it's not online and so searchable, so that's flattering and irritating. :-)

I do think it's a good resource, and a good set of short reads, and maybe for some a good solid-through read.  For anyone here who isn't aware of it, in Europe it's best bought through Amazon, and in the U.S. Amazon if you have Amazon prime.  U.S. without amazon prime, or others who can't get it from Amazon:  http://sandradodd.com/bigbook/

Or (there are links in there) e-copy through lulu.

With Lulu, if you're getting an eBook, Moving a Puddle has color photos (and lots of them), because back then I uploaded it in color which was "wrong," and awkward. :-)  So for the Big Book, I made a black and white file, and sent that "right."  Then electronic versions came along and wrong became a big advantage!

Don't forget iBooks! For anyone with Apple products (iPad, iPhone etc) with the iBooks app, both of Sandra's books can be purchased to download.

Does that still work?  I got an e-mail i didn't understand that I vaguely thought meant I needed to republish (kind of a technicality) if I wanted that to still be available, and I didn't do it. (ooops...)

If someone could check and let me know, I'd appreciate it.

I do know that from Lulul you can buy a PDF and that is nicer on some readers than others, maybe.

I purchased The Big Book a while ago on iBooks (perhaps a year ago, maybe a bit less). I purchased Moving a Puddle very recently - just a couple of weeks ago on iBooks. I just did a search now on iBooks and they both still show up in the store.

I purchased The Big Book a couple of years ago off of lulu.com (PDF version). It worked fine on my iMac but when I moved the file to my Kindle ereader the formatting wasn't quite right - very likely I did something wrong ;-). I kept watching the Amazon Kindle store hoping The Big Book would become available to download, and was very excited to find it on iBooks. Luckily I was able to read The Big Book on my iPad... Now I'm reading Moving a Puddle from my little iPhone screen, as my 2 yr old has taken over my iPad :-)

Thank you Sandra for these wonderful books. Your words have helped me become a kinder, more patient mother, wife and daughter.
