jumping in here....
you all (or you'ns) have kept us in discussion a day .....with these "r" posts but as for a family that has lived in Fla - TN - NC - IN & Chicago (which I am sure has linguistict differences from the rest of the state)

We deffinatly over use Twit for fool
drink "melk" ( instead of milk) - Pop or Coke (used genericly)
and when our bladder is full we go to the "worshroom" or Bathroom to poddy and wiggle
we have notice in this area of indiana a potluck supper is called a carryin (sounds way too much like carion for us) and they "drawl" a picture with a pin instead of pen and if something was stolen ot taken it "got took"

bye bye - take care & toodles

In "Sense and Sensibility" the not too bright girl is described as "no
conjurer" which I have always liked.

Another couple from Oz would be "Thick as a brick" and "thick as two short
planks".

And there is also of course the adjective from cunt, "cunty" meaning nasty
or mean.

I thought a twit was the name for a pregnant goldfish. Stright Dope
wanders around and through this idea here:

Interestingly the word twat comes up.

I have been lol!ing my way through these posts... love the word
twitterpated! ... a scrapbooker short of a crop!..

K and I went to see the Australian stand up comedian Carl Barron
recently. We saw him on the telly as part of the Comedy Festival, he's
toured the world, then he actually came to *our* town to do a show. He
does great observational humour. One of the very clean pieces used to
promo his tour here was this:

Server: Would you care for an orange juice?

Carl: If it needed me.

When I was younger, I heard "twit" and "nincompoop," but not lately.
Regional fashions change maybe?

We used to say that and now we've changed it to "brain blip"

No, but occasionally I have buttered scones (which I pronounce scones, not
scawns) for tea or with tea since dinner isn't tea and scones wouldn't
satisfy my dinner needs.
