In Virgnina, someone on our statewide support group list
([email protected]) created a membership card that
was uploaded as a file. People can print and laminate this card -- and
it's usually accepted by merchants as qualification for teacher
discount. I usually carry around my "approval" letter from the school
district, but no one has ever asked to see it. In the past, people have
asked why my children aren't in school on weekdays when we're out. My
eldest son has a ready response, "We homeschool and we learn everywhere
all the time." ~ Alicia

At the Barnes & Noble here, when you show your homeschool card, you get a %
off all "educational" purchases. But the checkout clerks always ask, "Is this
for school/educational purposes?" I proudly say,"Yes! Everything counts!
It's ALL educational!" as I pay for the newest Scooby-Doo paperback, the Myst
gaming cheatbook, three boardgames, and a puzzle!.

And for those of you who will ask what a homeschool card is---in SC we have
accountability associations. Each family member gets a card with his name and
homeschool name on it. This "certifies" that we're legal---and it gets us
discounts all over town and allows the boys to flash it at cops and other
nosy adults that want to know why they're out skateboarding at 10:30am.
