Sandra, this made me laugh...when I read aloud to my kids, I usually use
different voices and accents, to keep it interesting not only to my kids,
but to myself as I read as well! LOL. Does anyone else do this or am I the
only one?!?

Of course I read aloud in different voices - that's how I hear it when I see
the words!

Both Simon and Linnaea hate it when David and I read in different
voices than our normal ones. So, no, I don't put on any accent when I
read.

I do a little (depends on the book) but I seriously doubt anyone here
could come close to what Tim Curry can do with voices and
inflection. It would be worse to do a BAD English or New York
accent than to not do one at all.

I don't know, what would Mary Poppins be without Dick Van Dyke's
terrible cockney accent?

Yeah... pretty horrible.

Tim Curry, though... he can do an American accent, and I'm assuming
he's not faking his various brit-ones.

I have done this at various times, sometimes just to amuse myself cause
I think its funny. And my two boys got irritated and asked me to stop.
What they heck is that about? Oh well.

Tim Curry doesn't do all the Snicket books though, does he? I thought it
was just the first one or two.( LOVE the music on all of them though. )

Dick Van Dyke? rotflmao

But no one will break my everlasting love of Jim Dale!

No, there are a couple that are read by the author who doesn't read as
entertainingly as Mr. Curry.

I used to and I guess Josh (who is 14 now for those of you who know
me..I'm such a lurker) was just being nice because finally, at the 2nd
chapter of Half Blood Prince while I was switching between Snape,
Narcissa and Bellatrix,
I was informed that my voices suck and I just am not that good at
reading aloud (stutter, read the wrong word and have been known to fall
asleep while reading) so my services were no longer required.
;-)
Thank god for Jim Daley and Harry Potter on CD, he really just prefers
books on tape.

It is in the back of my mind to check out the books done in mp3 that you
can buy and transfer to his PSP if he ever wants that.

ROTFL... the kids love it when I read to them, but not voices because
*my* voice never sounds like what *they* imagine the voices to sound
like.
Anymore the older kids don't want me to read to them because I get
lost in the story and stop reading aloud! Good motivation for reading
by themselves.
