do any of your kids like fanny doolys (I
think that's how you spell it)?

They go like this...

Fanny Dooly likes cookies but she doesn't
like cake.

Fanny Dooly likes swimming but she doesn't
like water.

And for the pee and poop ones...

Fanny Dooly likes Pee but she doesn't like
urine.

Fanny Dooly likes Poop but she doesn't like
bm's.

Lexie especially loves coming up with Fanny
Doolys.

My kids still don't know these, which is fine.

When I was 19, my housemates in college tormented me for hours one night, and
I was almost in tears, when one of them said kindly "write some down." So I
got it and I could sleep that night. But their method was just this:

It is green, but it's not blue.
It is funny, but it's not hilarious.
It is good, but it's not great.

And written down makes them way too easy, but then again I shouldn't wish the
torment I went through on anyone!

What is this "just"?

Fun is a necessary part of learning, and a healing mindset, and good mental
exercise, and an uplifting energy.

There is no "just having fun."
Fun is serious.

Give yourself full credit for all fun-time.

agreed, the person who is telling the fanny
doolys needs to share the joke before
frustration sets in...

I should add, Joylyn, that I was "just funnin'," too. To my knowledge,
Fanny Doolies have not been included in the SAT. :-)

(Hasn't anyone figured out how to tell when I'm pulling your collective
legs?)

For me, it is the NOT knowing that makes it funnier.

well, there are analogies and word puzzles
and such on the sat, and it's been years (oh
Dodd, almost 20!) since I took the sat, so
what do I know!

LOL no, not yet. I'm a newbie, but I still
like fanny doolies.

Very true, Sandra, thanks for the reminder.
We do have so much fun, most of the time.
Lexie told me a few weeks back that she tries
to be mad at me but then I make her laugh! I
do use humor a lot to defuse situations, very
necessary with my 3 year old.

We love Fanny Dooley's at our house. The six yr old seems to have a nack
for coming uo with great ones, the 9/10 yr old seems to think too hard on
them (or maybe she just has her dad' s dry humor that not everyone 'gets'.
The three yr old tries and leaves us crying with laughter....which has been
a real problem lately. She doesn't LIKE when grownups laugh at her.
We've tried explaing we're not laghing "at" her, but that she brings us
joy and laughter is part of that. Well, that was a no-go, somehow the
sublety of laughing with someone and not at them is lost on her-LOL.

we don't have a 9/10 year old, but we do have
a 6 year old who comes up with great ones,
and a 3 year old who doesnt' like being
laughed at either. And she comes up with
some interesting jokes as well.
