I think, too, that IT WORKS! You can beat a child into doing what you say
when you say it. It works. What's better than blind obedience? That's a good
thing, right? Obedient children who are seen and not heard? It works. The
parents aren't evil: they have the most well-behaved children at the party.
It works. There's no evil involved. Just plain common sense, spare the
rod.... Who wants a mouthy, antagonistic, outspoken child telling everyone
what HE thinks? Better to have one of the quiet, well-behaved kind, when just
a LOOK will stop him in his tracks. Easier on the eyes and ears!

Yeah, blind obedience is just what child molesters want (never mind Hitler).
That's what I like to point out to people who think blind obedience is a
good thing.
