About Teaching and Learning
(Questionnaire)
This questionnaire was used in a workshop I presented in Albuquerque in 1997.
Introduction to Unschooling

New Mexico Family Educators Homeschool Conference

I will transcribe the questions first, but you can recreate the format of the original, if you want, by clicking and then printing the image below. It will give you room to write, and save it, and think about it, if that might be helpful.
List five things you learned after the age of twelve that you learned totally outside of school.
Try to think of three friend who make a living at things they learned outside of school (list by occupation/skill),
How many teachers have you had in life? (You might count private lessons, classes outside school, Sunday school, this workshop, other workshops, camp counselors, Scout leaders, 4-H leaders)
What factors help you learn?
What makes "a good teacher"?
Have you ever really loved a teacher other students didn't like? Have you ever had the experience of having "a great teacher" who didn't appeal to you at all?
What are you afraid of?
NOTES YEARS LATER:
The list of examples of teachers was local to the group, in New Mexico—mostly Christian homeschoolers, in that group, and the conference was in a church, 4-H and Scouting had been standard kid-activities for those old enough to be parents, in 1998.
The purpose of the questions was to help parents reconsider "school-at-home," and to realize learning happens without teaching,
