Koris Natterhelm

Koris Natterhelm

The Great General has retired from the field for the final time, in good order, fighting a rearguard action to the very end. Around noon today, Mountain Standard Time, Mark Plecki, Duke Koris Natterhelm, worn down by a life well and truly lived, passed quietly in his sleep. My heart is heavy with the loss of a man who had been one of the great mentors of young wild men in Albuquerque, and the rest of the mountainous west, as well as Texas and Oklahoma.

His wife, Flo Plecki, Duchess Leah Kasmira of Natterhelm, was and is a paragon of strength throughout Mark's ordeal, and was aided in strength and all the duties attending to the demise of a loved one, by Deborah McNeely, surely these two fine humans made his years with us easier, especially those at the close of his story.

I'll miss you Mark, and will continue to strive at being the man you and some few others thought I could become. My thanks to you, and my thanks to them.

Koris, Leah, Heinrich and I had what was, to the best of my knowledge and research, the only joint Coronation and Investiture in the SCA (in 1977). They became King and Queen of Atenveldt, then invested us as Prince and Princess of the Outlands. I consider myself so blessed to have been able to visit with Flo Plecki this past week, reminiscing about those early days. They will always be to me shining examples of both royalty and devoted love. While I deeply mourn his passing, I am relieved that he has been released from the physical body which gave him pain. Godspeed, my friend and king.

I randomly ran across this photo tonight, of four wonderful people who were instrumental in my SCA career, and it made me happy ❤️

Around noon today, Mountain Standard Time, Mark Plecki, Duke Koris Natterhelm, passed on beyond the veil.

I met him early in my SCA career, where he promptly got me blind drunk and befriended me. Over the years he, along with Trelon Dux and Barry Jacobsen mentored me. When I first became Caid's Captain-General when Caid returned to the Estrella Wars, he embraced me as brother and fought as both allies and opposite numbers over the years, but always in good spirit.

My condolences to his lady wife, Flo Plecki in the SCA known as Duchess Leah Kasmira of Natterhelm.

Koris, you taught me a lot, you crafty devil. I'll miss you, Brother.— feeling sad.
