Bright Ideas and True Confessions: How and What to Do
and Why Considerations
An Encouraging Word Ælflæd of Duckford
Draw people out. Mix and match people. If someone always teaches heraldry,
ask her to teach costuming next time. If someone always gets stuck marshaling,
find some different marshals and ask him to lead the troops. If you're
not in a position to direct people's teaching and fighting, how about
drawing people out in asking for help? If there's a chess master in your
barony who has already taught two dozen people chess and you're his next
most likely student, what if you were to go to him and say "What would
you do in the Society if chess were not your first love?" or at least
"What other games do you like?" Ask the best Florentine fighter to show
you what he knows about shields.
In the process of creating a well-rounded person of yourself, you might
help others be more whole. Good feelings among people create more good
feelings.
