freedom of the press

The press in this country is only as free as the right wing conservatives
that own it allow it to be.
Janis
This statement stunned me, because I had never considered the press in this
country to be right-winged conservatives. I had always considered it the
opposite-left-wing radicals. The only conservative I've seen on tv is Bill
O'Reilly, who calls himself an independent but most of his views, in my opinion, are
conservative. Just to help me stretch beyond my current thinking, could you
back that statement up with some examples? And please don't say Dan Rather-I
consider him an acute liberalist. I'm not asking this for sake of arguement
but for another point of view to consider. Thanks.

I think whether the press seems right or left depends on where you stand. I'm a pinko commie left-wing socialist so I see a right wing press. :)

The papers in this area SE New England)- except for a couple of the small local papers are all very definitely Republican owned.
BTW - that quote is a rather well known one. I can't recall the name of the person that said it.

Isn't it all so backward??
Two schools in RI (so far) have had to rush kids out because of contaminants. Our voting machines are rigged. There will not be any large fish in the ocean in ten years. There's a move on to drill for oil in the soon to be privatized national parks. More people are dying everyday in the name of greed and the "theology of consumerism" - yet who someone loves is at issue.
I thought that was a done deal. Really, who cares who someone loves? Or how? or why?
Diversionary tactics?
BTW - which are the pinko commie newspapers??
Janis

If it's out of line for a list owner to ask people to keep to the topic and
to follow the posting guidelines, the world is in bad shape.
3. When differences of opinion arise, stick to discussing ideas, not the
person with whom you are disagreeing.
5. Before you hit "send," consider whether your post will contribute
positively to the unschooling discussion.
