Aliyah Meena Shanti, 15, is an Olympia-based, homeschooled composer.
Calvary was named a National Finalist in the 2003 ASCAP/Morton Gould
Young Composers Competition, the most prestigious competition for
composers under age 30 in the United States. In giving it their highest
("Superlative") rating, the judges in the National Federation of Music
Clubs 2003 Competition called Calvary, "A Monumental Work! Highly
profound reflections of ancient modal music and opera."

The cast will feature many of the outstanding singers of Opera Pacifica,
Olympia's latest contribution to the operatic world. The orchestra for
this 45-minute work will be conducted by Dr. Gregory Youtz, Professor of
Composition, Department of Music, Pacific Lutheran University.

Congratulations! How delightful.

I enjoy Yeats. I directed, as part of my Honors special project, a
reworking of "Purgatory". I'll have to go back and find "Calvary" to
read.
