I'm another one! Both of my paternal grandparents were from the Azores: Sao
Miguel and Sao Maria.

My Mom's people are from Sao Miguel.
I don't think it was genocide as much as assimilation.
And then change the history type of thing.
I'd like to continue this thread - as I have much info - perhaps off-list?
