Any discussion of words needs to involve denotation and connotation.
If words were simply interchangeable, English wouldn't have so many of them.

Indoctrination has a negative connotation of being controlling and injecting
information into a person, somewhat or totally against his will.

Sometimes it's packaged well and people seek it out. It seems to me cults
must be like that.

But there's usually an awareness on the part of the indoctrinator that it
would be against the person's will if they weren't steered away from
questions with dangerous answers.
