Actually, Melissa Mathiesson was his SECOND wife, for whom he dumped the
first one when he got famous. He actually tried for a long time to make the second
one work.

I'm glad Harrison Ford tried to make his second marriage work. Really
I am. But, IMO, THAT is slimey behavior, that dumping the first wife
when he got famous. Paul Hogan, from Crocodile Dundee did that, for
his co-star whateverhernameis, and I consider that slimey, too. OH!
That guy from LA Law dumped HIS wife, for the older woman attorney
actress...LOL I don't know names of ANY TV actors! Slimey. When a
woman does it, it's slimey, too. And when they do it to each other,
that's slimey for the kids' sakes. Like Tom Cruise and Nichole Kidman
or Loni Anderson and ???Burt Reynolds? Adopting children and breaking
up their family? Slimey.

It's too bad that Charleton Heston has political and social ideas
that are distasteful to some, but his personal life is an example of
Doing It Right, at least as far as steadfastness in family is
concerned.

Yes! Paul Nemwan and oh sheesh, can't remember her name. She's an
actress in her own right. OH! Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy were
married only to each other, and both excellent actors. And, Mel
Gibson is a current hottie who shines in family life.

Yes, and the whole Newman's Own thing shows that he is a good person.
His daughter runs the Organics subsidiary.

I didn't know about Ford's first wife. However in his defense I don't
think he took up with anyone before the separation, now of course seeing
Calista Flockhart. I don't know how much time he could put into the
relationship, living away from LA as he does.

Other couples we can love (at least so far) Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson;
Michael J. Fox and Tracey Pollen (spelling?); Noah Wiley and his wife;
Danny De Vito and Reah Perlman; Pierce Brosnan and his wife (2nd wife
but honorably a widower). I mean there are people who somehow manage not
to let the movie industry interfere with their relationships.

EEEk Say it isn't so!!! Joanne Woodward is Newman's second wife. They
married in 1958, after he divorced his first wife of 9 years (Jackie
Witte), having had three children with her!!!

Hmmm, doesn't time soften the appearance of the past.

I do like what Paul Newman is doing with organic foods. Newman's Own.
slurp.

And, I think I was just being bitchy w/the Harrison Ford thing.
Someone said research is good, and that's true. I apologize. Tend to
get going and spout off sometimes. Sorry. Should probably have kept
mum when I was in such a cranky mood. (You don't WANT me to get
started on...okay, I won't say, because that would get me started! L)

Really?!?!? No! I'll have to get over to that movie star website!

You know what it is? It seems that divorce and remarriage is the norm
with movie stars, so when a couple stays together for a long time, we
want to admire them...rightly so.

HeidiC...can't believe it about Paul Newman, though.

I really don't think it's a fair assumption at all to say that what these
people did is slimey. Their marriage broke up. None of us here certainly
know what really happened. If anyone fooled around at all and even who
actually did. Why they broke up and who was more responsible if any one
person really was. I also don't think most people have children on the
assumption that they won't be together forever. Some people change and some
people don't and some people go different directions and a lot of people
just make mistakes. And some people are much better off being apart and some
children are better with their parents being apart too. Seems like there is
a lot of judging going on because of who wed and who divorced.

Tom Hanks was actually married before Rita Wilson. He was married until 1985
which funny enough is the year the movie Volunteers came out. He met Rita
during the filming of that movie. (hmmmm?)

Hi Mary B

You're right. In another post, I apologized for my bitchy post about
Harrison Ford (The "slimey" post) I was just in a bad mood and should
have been out taking a walk or digging weeds or something. Once
again, Sorry. (sheepishly)

I had some kind of computer glitch and my post didn't come up right away and
then way after you said you were grumpy. It all worked out them didn't it?!
It just hit a nerve, I'd hate to be thought of as slimy just because I had a
child and "dumped" my husband for a younger man!!!
