It causes us to step back, and remember that our little guy is NOT his
disorder - - rather, he is his own unique person, with ongoing interests
and curiosities!

i think it is wonderful to have this attitude. i myself struggle with
getting lost in my condition and have had some bad days. i'm sure this
attitude will help ground your son in himself rather than his situation.

best wishes

Our son has a strep-related autoimmune disorder that was exacerbated by
his five-year vaccinations. We've run the gamut of emotions over this
one and also feel like we're often on a ferris wheel of food concerns,
therapy concerns, medication concerns . . . etc. It is a tough road,
but unschooling has made a mountain of a difference in all our lives.
It causes us to step back, and remember that our little guy is NOT his
disorder - - rather, he is his own unique person, with ongoing interests
and curiosities! Child-led learning, for him, has been so beneficial
because it gives him a lot of confidence and reassurance in an often
illness-ridden childhood. I empathize with those of you who are dealing
with autoimmune disorders in your families. My thoughts are with you
all today. God bless!
