My daughter never brushed her long hair anf got fed up with getting the tangles out when she remembered to brush it. We solved the problem by dread-locking her hair. Now it never needs brushing and the
more tangles the better :-) She looks pretty good too.
My boys also have long hair but for some reason their hair doesn't tangle or mat. Weird.
