Thanks for asking.

We had a great trip. Stayed at an inn in Burnsville. We had snow all Saturday
morning---SO COOL! Then the sun came up, and it was lovely the rest of the
weekend---but the mountaintops remained dusted while we were there.

We looked at many possible pieces of land through a realtor and had about
given up. ;-( Then we saw an ad---for sale by owner---in a local newspaper.
Ten acres---12 years pesticide free, so seven years organic! It was an old
dairy farm. A bubbly creek runs through it (potable!). Five acres flat with
five acres rolling almost all pasture. A few evergreens and some hardwoods on
the hills. With views, in a little cove with really cool neighbors (one
single mom with a 10 year old son she homeschools). 18 miles west of
Asheville, NC.

I'm taking the boys up this weekend to get their opinions. (Duncan will be
all for it as there are horses that live next door! <g>)

Asheville's also a beautiful place for a conference! <G>

I hope there are friends for your boys closer than 18 miles! Or I hope they
have families who will exchange lots of overnighting opportunities with your
boys so you don't have to drive back and forth so much.

We have friends who live on the other side of the mountains from here. 20
to 45 miles, various other homeschooling families. Overnighters have saved
the day(s) many times.

AH! But Cameron got his restricted license last week or so. He'll be driving
on his own in six months! <G> I will soon have my own personal valet!

Downtown Asheville is 18 miles away. There's plenty of stuff closer. Remember
how far we are out right now? We're ten miles from downtown Columbia!
Eighteen won't seem that bad (I hope!)

Kelly,
I got my first taste of virginia/ NC countryside beauty as I drove to
the conference last year. I'd never driven through there before. I can only
imagine what it must be like _off_ the freeway and in the countryside.
Maybe it was last year when I was lurking more that you may have
mentioned not liking camping. I had my first time at cabin camping last
year. It's so much easier that tents. Haven't tried B&B yet. Any
suggestions?
