Well, as I am probably one of the folks causing the stir, my problem was
with the start "as Christian parents/grandparents" which immediately infers
that the list is comprised of such only AND, the article itself. The
repeated references to Japan as being the problem was definately racist.
Also, being quite well read in Biblical references (like one would have a
choice in a family with several ordained ministers <g>) it always bugs the
h*ll out of me when someone manipulates passages from the Bible.

So, that said, I still think all the hysteria over Pokemon is just that,
hysteria. In a couple of years it will be gone just like all the other
hyped up sell em to the kiddies things. I mean, what has lasted, Barbie,
Legos and Hot Wheels, oh and sport trading cards. Also the rest have come
and gone once the big money stopped rolling in.

Hello folks.

I am a lurker here, and I am homeschooling my 4 and 11/2 year old. I am also
an American convert to Islam, and I choose to reside in the US as it is my
home. However, as a Muslim I am acutely sensitive to the overwhelming number
of references to Christianity in America, and the "west" in general. Still,
we all have to admit that as most western countries are Christian - if in
name if not all in practice, then those who are Christian (as well as others)
most certainly have freedom of expression. This is, after all an American
constitutional right, correct?

I also, however, share the distaste that some of the non-Christian
homeschoolers here feel with repeated references to Christianity. I agree -
it gets a bit old, and there certainly are a number of Christian
homeschooling lists that the Christians on this list who want to discuss
Christian related topics could subscribe to.

I think, however, a good dose of tolerance is warranted. For those that
dislike the Christian references, it is wise to delete, or quickly skim, or
at least sort of tune out; and perhaps the Christians here could tone down
the overly religious references and remember that there are places where
those sentiments would really be appreciated.

And after all - this is JUST about Pokemon. Is it really worth any anger?!
