Since we discussed the Ezzos and Babywise not too long ago on this
list, I thought I would forward these links that I got off another
unschooling list where this was also being discussed. I also have a
letter written by parents who tried this method of
child-rearing with disastrous results.
They have given permission for their letter to be forwarded.
It's fairly long, so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone is
interested before I sent it to the list. I could also send it
privately.

It's interesting that you say that, because the parents that wrote
the letter I have point out that they are intelligent, well-educated
people that thought long and hard about this approach. Still, it
took them quite awhile to see the damage that was being done.
Their child now has to be fed with an NG tube.

Thanks for the links!
I've been to some of these sites. I've found this to be an intriguing
topic! Also, found out my bil and sil are using the Ezzo approach! Their
son is the same age as my youngest (toddlers). It has surprised me because
they both seem pretty level headed and loving. I'm trying to decide how to
diplomatically introduce some of the opposing views!
Of course, I'va always been a huge fan of Penelope Leach.....who is
currently working vehemently in opposition to the Ezzo's proposal to teach
GKGW in Great Britain!

Thad Martin

hi,

we moved to austin,tx (davis, ca) when i was around 5 months pregnant. we are
about equi-distance (1800 miles) from both families (n. ca & e. pa) which has
its obvious down sides especially in terms of our son getting to know all his
grand parents, aunts & uncles .... but the up side is exactly what you're
talking about
ALL that advice and you really don't have much of a clue when everyone around
you is interfering with ones instincts. i'm really happy we had it very quiet
only the occasional visit. it's allowed us some time to look into things, and
rather some raw experience so we could do things the way we felt was best. i
guess i find that i want the same for r'. the idea that without a lot of
judgment and pressure to conform, he could 'show' me who he is and not get
stuck in that cycle of pleasing/performing. i want him (and me as well) to
discover that when he is truly happy, when he follows what he believes, within
himself, he will feel contentment and excitement, and those around him will be
happier than if he had done 'what he was told'. that is not to say everything
he does pleases me:) - it certainly is not the case but without a lot of people
telling him or me what is the right way we can work our way through any dilemma
we happen upon.
