It's a discussion list. Whether they ask or not, if it's posted in a public
forum such as this, it's open for comment.
If people don't like everything they say being open for discussion, they
shouldn't join the list!

I understand that. I didn't mean to imply that what we post is not open
for comment. What I meant was that if you say, oh like this movie or
this actor, that doesn't mean that you're necessarily saying, what do
you guys think, do I have good taste? I meant that the list is more that
just a constant "what do you think?" It's also about sharing
(experiences, resources, thoughts).
