I am reading this book by Frank Smith. I love so much of what he has to
say.
This is from the book:

"Learning can be effortless, continual, permanent-and also pleasant--
though it won't take place in the absence of comprehension, interest, or
confidence. That is the classic view of learning and forgetting. We can learn
without effort if we are interested in what we are doing (or in what someone
else is doing), free from confusion, and given assistance when we seek it.
All of this is something we all know implicitly, even if most of the time we
don't think of it because learning in this way doesn't demand conscious
attention." (Page 43)

I love this, he says it all so well and so true. I highly recommend this
book!

"The Book Of Learning and Forgetting" Not a very catchy title but the book is good

Insult to Intelligence is one of his books. He writes a Learners' Manifesto
which is superb.
