Anyone who wants to come is welcome.
I'll post a date after Christmas when I've sobered up ;-)

We have dogs and cats just in case anyone is seriously allergic so
bring benadryl.

I think you've found the solution to your MIL, inebriation. Too bad I
couldn't send you my dh's German Christmas Punch that he makes every winter.
Just smelling it while it's simmering is intoxicating. It's so good. A
wonderful substitute for anyone needing nitroglycerin. It opens up all the
vessels and you'd never know you were having pain.

No problem, ds is on Zyrtec. Less sedating.

Sorry Teresa, it's an old family recipe. I don't want to end up in divorce
court. Ha, not really, but dh hates when I tell people some of the
ingredients. One whiff and you can figure out some of them. Duh! I will say
that oranges, cinnamon, cloves, tea and a variety of liquors are the main
ingredients. Can't you smell it? You drink it hot. It's so good on a cold day.

Well that gives me something to work with.. :-) Nothing like trial and error
with a recipe, especially a particulary "refreshing" one .. heheh..

Teresa

People can go to google.com or some specific recipe site (although google
will search those too) and put in those ingredients and "hot punch" or "grog"
or "mulled" and get lots of recipes for such things.

Ok, what'd I miss? Is this a liqueur your dh's family makes?

The German version is an incredibly sweet, sticky thing called gluhwein,
although it's supposed to have the little two dots over the u. My computer
doesn't do that very easily. You can get little mix packets to make it at
the German imports store, or probably find a recipe on google. So far as I
can tell, it's red wine with spices and about 6 cups of sugar; can't be that
hard to make!

Sounds like the mulled wine we made for a medieval dinner here.
I still have some on top of the fridge.....hmmmmm. Maybe time to pull it down
again.
Ours didn't have orange in it though.

This has NOTHING to do with the drink, but...You can make the same "sound" by
using an "e" when you can't use an umlaut.

Gluehwein

And you don't have to ad so much sugar. Add "to taste".

Gluhwein:
1 bottle (24 oz.) red wine
1 cup water
1 cinnamon stick
2 whole cloves
1/2 lemon sliced
1/3 cup sugar
mix ingredients in a large pan and heat until almost boiling but do not boil,
serve hot

Sorry to remind you of it. I thought that you'd survived the ordeal already.
Hey, the punch will come in handy then. I'll mail you off list for
directions.
