I thought this was "Unschooling-dotcom," not "Religion bashing-dotcom." I just joined today, and I am appalled at the conversations that I've seen already. I am very new to this "unschooling" concept and was hoping to read about some great ideas, suggestions, discussions, etc. And instead, all I've read is juvenile arguments concerning others religious convictions! I'm hoping that I just caught you all on a bad day.

Hi Tamara

There are a lot of great discussions of unschooling here, just delete the
posts with this stuff in them. I'm a christian and love it here, I know I
can post a question and get the best advice around from some experienced and
thoughtful unschoolers. Every list will stray into side issues, I just
delete most of it and hang in there for the good stuff.

Thanks Kris! I'll do exactly that. I look forward to sharing ideas and advice.

This is an unschooling website, and this did start with an unschooling question. But when people have convictions and passions about something, its pretty hard to separate those feelings out.

Religion is out there in the world and a big part of it, and I want to know how to address my kids questions when they come up because they do come up.

Hang in there, there is so much helpful info here, even when others are discussing things that might not seem relevant.

I'd also like to pipe in that the advice to lurk for two weeks should really
be followed. It is always difficult to join an active list like this, you
will feel like you are jumping into the middle of a conversation for a long
time. This list, in particular, is populated by folks who are not only
comfortable with questioning their actions to the core, but who could live no
other way.

You will learn a lot. I, for instance, have learned much about Allen
Rickman, a previously unknown force in some people's lives. :)

I,for one am definitely enjoying the posts about religion b/c I am learning things I didn't know before & somebody shared a wonderful website that I was able to tell my friend about who is searching for God.I think it's nice we can all share our feelings,we can't change each other, but we certainly can learn from each other! :) I think unschooling touches all subjects & this is just one of them.

I agree! dd says the best part of homeschooling is the opportunity to
have discussions... I am learning also. I like.. no, love.. that on this
list there don't seem to be any offtopic subjects, only that respect is
to be maintained and passion is allowed. way cool.

btw, someone mentioned the website religoustolerance.org. Beliefnet is
good too.

When people learn from each other they change.

The Commandments are:

Watch movies with Alan Rickman in
Drool
Download the 'Snape' screensaver
Set it to come on if you've been idle for more than 1 second
Read the web page - Alan Rickman Addicts Survival guide

Tonight a friend was over. Their family is very Christian, her children will
not hear or think of Harry Potter. But actually she's the least christian of
the family (three kids and husband all more).

My rented Harry Potter DVD goes back tomorrow.

She's an actress and a storyteller.

So I showed her the Snape scene, where he walks in, through the candlelight,
and described his potions class.

We watched it twice. She was impressed.

I'll forgive them for not being Brits. We can't ALL be perfect

I was watching Priscilla, Queen of the Desert again last night.
Elrond/Agent Smith in drag singing Abba hits.

Well okay.

My friend Ramona and I were talking about Samuel L. Jackson last night, about
Unbreakable.

and Hugo Weaving is in one of my favorite movies of all time, "The Adventures
of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." And so I cannot watch Elrond without
thinking of ABBA. It's a little disturbing.

OH!!! missed this, obviously, when I heard it. <g>

Marty has a funny routine that's been going around the gaming shop where he
works, and is being added to and refined.

It's Elrond, speaking to Frodo, as if he were Agent Smith speaking to Neo.
It's funny!

I saw Priscilla before I'd ever seen him in anything else, so I'm more
warped.

Is this disqualifying?

"Hugo Weaving was born in Nigeria and lived in South Africa and England
before moving Australia at age 16."

If his parents were British, does he go on the Sainted English Actors' roll?

And so doth the Church of Rickman reach out, even unto the
unbelievers.

Did that sound sort of scripturally?
That scene is good in its entirety. The video or DVD has the extra
footage where they filmed more onto that scene.
Harry says 'Clearly, Hermoine knows, why don't you ask her?'
and Snape goes over to him and leans in nastily.
I don't know why they didn't leave it in.

Thats a trciky one. He holds UK nationality and Australian. I spose
he could be an honourary Brit.
