Lots of ruffled feathers about political stuff, so it might help
to re-frame the political issue as an opportunity to see where
you in fact fall on the spectrum and to play with a little
geometry - kinda an unschooling trip down the side path:

Saturday after a birthday party a mom I know asked if I had time
to talk about homeschooling. She had taken her 5 y.o. to register
at the local ps to discover that no matter how much the child
already knew, she would have to be in kindergarten and would not
be allowed to read books while the other kids learned their
letters. Her first question was "Where do you buy the
curriculum?" It was a fairly long conversation thereafter, LOL.

Among other things I asked her what she wanted to accomplish by
avoiding public school. One of her comments was pretty
interesting in the context of the discussions here (paraphrased):
"I see lots of homeschool kids involved in and understanding
politics better than I do - I want my daughter to have the
courage of her political convictions."

We are in Tennessee and have had a remarkable run of grassroots
political activism here for the last 3 years, so there have been
more opportunities for political issues to catch the imagination
of the kids, but isn't that an interesting alternative view?

Oh yeah? What part of TN?

When you say activism, you're not meaning in the homeschooling
regulation arena, are you?

On the ridge in Sumner county - North Middle TN, where the shores
of the Gulf of Mexico used to be. ... and the grassroots refers
to the income tax issue, about which I could post far more than
enough to hijack any list, LOL!

So, what I mean is...are YOU for or against the income tax? :)

Tuck

Nora or Devereaux Cannon

We are opposed here - I'll PEM more, since I don't think we have
enough TN'eans to warrant an on list exploration, however
innerestin' the topic is intellectually.
