Hi Audrey - well let's see. When you were seeing him, was he in his group?
Was he out there "famous" and all? LOL. How did you handle that? Did he
write any songs about you or your relationship? Were you totally into his
music and if so, do you still like it now that you're not together? You
mentioned he dumped you - so did he turn into a jerk, then? I suppose so.
LOL. Do you ever see or speak with him anymore? I guess that's all. Just
excited about this little "brush with fame". lol.

when i met kip,he was in a band w/ his 2 brothers called "wingerz"-he left
them when we moved to nyc. they were bummed, to say the least. i should've
known if he'd abandon his own brothers, he'd abandon me.we had broken up by
the time he got signed- he called me to tell me tho.
yes- i was TOTALLY into his music. it's a strange thing, being on the inside
of the music business. i got to hang out w/ him at atlantic records for a
few days, and david bowie was recording in the next room...that was kinda
neat.the thing about kip is that he's an artist. he writes string quintets
and beautiful ballades etc. i guess his boyhood dream was to be a
rockstar.he wrote about three songs "for me"the first of which absolutely
swept me off my feet!here's a passage..."yes i know, that your heart beats
strong, i can feel the blood of your heart run thru my soul and if i close
my eyes i can see the pictures inside your dreaming heart,my love, i hear
your dreaming heart"etc.wouldn't you melt too?yeah- we were just kids but he
was a talented one-even having gone to ps! he calls every few years to sort
of check in- he loves my mom- so he calls her too.one of my dear friends is
another of his dumped girlfriends- and a lso a ballerina- better than
me!!!so i figure i went through all the pain of kip winger to meet this
woman who's an awesome friend.
hope i don't get in trouble for this p[ost -its way way off topic-oh dear!
fame is when everybody knows your name, huh!

Very cool story, Audrey! It was fun to read.
Loved part of the song that was written for YOU - how very special.
Now all you need to do is call VH1 and tell them a bit of this, and they can
get started on a "Winger - Behind the Music". LOL!
Thanks for sharing. :-)

Oh dear, I wish people wouldn't fret so about "getting in trouble"
for being so open and sharing on this list (or any of our lists).
Maybe we don't make it clear enough that *everything* is related to
unschooling, and not just for the kids, but as someone else
eloquently pointed out tonight (sorry, I'm just quickly scanning
lists and don't recall names) we're all learning, all the time. From
your post I learned about someone I hadn't heard of before, but if I
do run across his name and/or music now it will have some meaning for
me, and your description of "string quintets and beautiful ballads"
sounds like something I'd go out of my way to seek out. I loved the
word pictures you drew with your description of your relationship. It
made me do some thinking about relationships in general...

Anyway, please don't concern yourself about being off-topic on this
list. I'm not even sure it's possible.

Helen (listowner FYI)

audrey elwood

wow helen-
i got chills read ing your reply to my timidity...not to mention my eyes
welling up a bit...i'm so glad you feel that way and i won't hold back!
i'll have to tell kip you'd buy a cd of his "pretty" music, as my 5yo would
say-

The funny thing is that I am following this thread because I have no
idea who this guy is? What band are you talking about? I am
fascinated by the obscurity of the information :-)

I couldn't remember who Winger was, but dh (being the musician) did.
The part that excited me, was the fact that you were in the recording
studio with DAVID BOWIE (one of my all time fave musicians)!!!

I'm pretty sure they already did a Behind the Music on him. My dh and I were
talking about it last night after I mentioned this thread. We never listened
to Winger or groups in that genre. We called it all "Pretty metal". Not our
taste. I guess poor old Kip got lumped in with those hair flippin, bleached
bond, overly sexed bands of the 80's for us. Anyway, after seeing Behind the
Music we had way more respect for Kip and his music. It was clear that he
was more of a thinking guy than his marketing would have led you to believe.

Life is good.

Winger is a rock group from the late 1980's, had a few hits like "Seventeen"
and a power ballad "Miles Away". Winger music, along with other similar
"hair band" music, reminds me of late 80's life - just got married, living
carefree and uncomplicated lives. I remember liking Winger, though I never
bought an album.

Here's a website I found with some info and pictures of the group Winger:

what sort of musician is
your husband?

The dabbling sort. He plays drums (which we don't have right now),
guitar and keyboard and in the past has played trumpet. He's a true
dabbler though, has written some lyrics and some acoustic stuff but
never really put the two together.
He isn't the type to be in a band unless they were like minded
enough, which won't happen. He doesn't have any desire to make money,
cuz then he'd have to do what other people want him to. He'd get
together with some guys that like the same music he does, just to
play, but he's never found anyone that wants to do that.
He loves Yes, Kansas, Collective Soul, Journey, Peter Frampton, Creed
etc.....very eclectic, we listen to opera, new age, rock almost
everything.
I love it when he plays guitar on the bed while I'm falling asleep,
hasn't done that in a long time...sigh.

Darn! Must've missed that one...but they might repeat it again sometime and
I'll watch then - with renewed interest!
