My 9 yo ds is an inquisitive child and sometimes, ok, a lot of the time, I
don't have the answer for him. He tries searching with google, but it's
often too much and he gives up. Can anyone recommend a site that can be used
when he asks a question such as details of what a barge does?

I think it's cool he's using google, but thought there might be a simpler
one out there for kids.

Marty uses "Ask Jeeves" (I think it's called)

Yes, it's Ask Jeeves, and the address is http://www.ask.com/

We love this search engine!

I forgot to mention that kids can also go to http://www.ajkids.com/

This is still Ask Jeeves, but especially for kids.

My 12 yo started using www.howstuffworks.com when he was
10. It covers mechanical, biological, and pretty much
how everything works. He has learned SO MUCH. He gets
the weekly newsletter and then relates to me later how
everything works!

The 12 yo is standing here as I type and thought you'd
like to see this sequence of pictures of a barge barely
missing a bridge --

Good luck

Here's one thing a barge can do:

Amazing series of photos but it takes a while to load.
