thankyou.....yes, she is NOT thriving in that type of environment..I think
she would do well at a smaller setting .No!!! I didn't take her out of
school...she is underage and i have been sending her out to school each
morning at the same time as usual although SHE keeps leaving because she
can't seem to cope with the environment.there is a lot of violence . She is
smart..but because she keeps leaving the building she is receiving low marks
and not getting her credits. I have talked with counsellers from her school
and they are not offering me anything except one program which is only
temporary( then she would go back to the big environment, yet it is full and
so u cant get in anyway. They do offer that she could go to court...but
nothing would be done( they told me this) as a result of her missing
school...only thing possibly is a charge...which parents would have to pay.
But... they have done nothing anyway. So.. she is sent by me out to school
but doesnt stay. thats the predicament and she is not yet sixteen till next
november. thanks everyone. :) Faith

Hi Faith,
I have not read these links but they are ones that I found rather quickly
that may or may not be of help to you, they do seem to outline some support
groups in Ontario as well as the legalities of homeschooling there:

Wow, Faith.. you're in between a rock and a hard place.:(
It is *never* too late to start unschooling and even though that isn't what
you've initially started out to find, that is where you are!
Once you have gone over the legal requirements and know your options, you
may want to consider the bigger picture and that is that learning is a
life-long process and something that won't end at any particular age. With
that in mind, it might be helpful to quickly read up on what other kids have
done (I'd suggest Real Lives by Grace Lewellyn once again <g>). From there,
you can talk with your daughter about how her education is just that...
*her* choices and responsibility and find out what she is interested in. If
she's been in a school setting all this time, she might not have any idea
what she's passionate about.
I guess the main thing is that you need to try to meet your legal
requirements (imo) yet not just purchase some curriculum recommended to you
and have her plow through it. It sounds like she's a bright girl so trust
her to make some choices about what she wants to study and go from there...

While this is a good list, you might want to join a Canadian list for
Canadian content. Send a blank message to [email protected]
Another chatty bunch, but ask a question and you'll get answers. There's
also a Canadian unschooling list. Send a blank message to
[email protected]
If you join either of those, you'll see me there. %^) I have a 14 year
old boy who has never been to school.
