A sound machine?
I know what you mean but I have never seen one.
Where would you find such a thing?
A pharmacy?
I live in Canada so the stores may carry different items.
interesting idea....

I may need to use drugs in hte short term as things are really coming to a
head and I need to keep myself in good mental shape to handle the events.
Has anyone used any sleeping pills and have any advice about which ones
would help me sleep through the night?? I get to sleep just fine but wake
early (3 or 4) and can't get back to sleep.

I have taken Sonata, which gives me a good solid 4 hours of sleep. Ambien is
helpful, I took it in the past.

I live in Canada also, Winnipeg. I got mine at a the Zellers Pharmacy section. I've seen them in Wal-mart, Shopper's Drug Mart, Canadian Tire, even Grand & Toy (stationary store.)

I've never tried sleeping pills, as I usually have enough trouble getting up in the morning even after a full nights sleep with nothing in my system, LOL. I have used herbal stuff, though. Valerian is quite powerful, knocks me right out. Chamomile tea works pretty well too, I usually drink a "tummy mint" kind, cause my belly will wake me up at night as often as my head.

I've often been kept awake by the "spinning thoughts" stuff, can't make my brain stop. For that, I've found the only thing I can really do is to get up, turn on the light, and start writing out what I'm thinking, and try to bring my thoughts to a logical end point.

Just a trivium detail here, but Valerian is the source or root of Valium, and is indeed a powerful sleep aid.

Are you sure about that? I was pretty sure they weren't related.

Actually, valerian is mistaken for valium, but they are not related. It is, however, a very powerful herb. It knocks me out the same way that cold medication does, and leaves me a little groggy in the morning.

True. I was told so, but it's not the case.

You're right. Sorry for the misinformation. I was told so and believed it without any further investigation.
