Okay enough sight . . . but there is no EVIDENCE to support wny of it's
conclusions and it perpetuates the myth that you cannot believe in
evolution and intentional design or god at the same time. You can. Who
are we to say how god can or cannot work?

I am more than willing to examine issues and unusual takes on things but
I do ask for some evidence when you say for example that the lunar
landing didn't happen.

Tyranny of the majority is tyranny nonetheless.

I attempted to subscribe to Growing Without Schooling, but I just
received in the mail yesterday a letter explaining that after 24
years, they're no longer financially viable, and have had to cease
publication. They said there was no other choice to be made, but I
never read about that possibility on their website.

When UTNE Reader was faced with growing losses, they went directly to
their subscribers for help: please re-subscribe, give gift
subscriptions, etc. Did GWS ever do that? I'm new to the HSing
scene, so I don't know a lot of background stuff here...I'm just VERY
DISAPPOINTED. There's not much local support for unschooling, so I
was attempting every avenue I could. Do y'all experienced
unschoolers think any "public outcry" might convince GWS to
reconsider?

I'm new to hsing (1 month and counting) and I was just filling out a subscription yesterday (by mail) for GWS. I'm very, very disappointed. I haven't even read a whole issue. I was looking forward to getting my first issue. Is there any way to still get back issues?

Actually *I* prefer the old stuff------especially the stuff in the "undated"
issues that JH deliberately used solely numbers rather than dates to identify
because he did not want folks to think the info and ideas were too
"old-fashioned" or "out-of-date".

You might try contacting GWS directly at the below phone numbers.....
Contact us at:

Growing Without Schooling
2380 Massachusetts Ave Suite 104
Cambridge, MA 02140-1226
Phone (617) 864-3100
FAX (617) 864-9235

Toll-free order line: 888-925-9298

Please feel free to email us feedback, especially suggestions for improvement.

Yep - you can go to http://www.holtgws.com There is an order form
there, and also a 1-800 number to call. I know it's true that the
old stuff is just as good...there's just something fulfilling in
seeing a new magazine in the mailbox. I feel the same way about
Mothering magazine...sometimes it's the same stuff rehashed, but I
still feel support from seeing it in print. On to HEM!

The kidlets did the lunar landing thingy. Then they showed it to me. They
have determined based on before and after photos and things like missing
foot prints that the first lunar landing was a sham <g>

Bummer it risked violating law. <g>

(Unless in the small print in the publication notice it had the date of
publication.)

Home School Digest didn't date some of their issues (might still not) and the
publisher was listed as God or some such. Not quite "rendering to Ceasar,"
post-office- and publication-speaking.

But yes! The old stuff has some actual John Holt. And the old stuff is more
vibrant to me, because there was more uncertainty. It was the dirt road with
the ditch and the salamanders, instead of the wider paved road over culverts,
no dips, street lights and road signs. Billboards.

But there was a time when I depended on GWS for my lifeline to the greater
world of unschoolers, when Kirby was five and six. I'm thrilled that it
existed. I'm sorry I gave away some of my back issues, EXCEPT that they
might have changed the lives of another family or three. I hope.
