Good answer!
My first thought was "National Geographic, a wall map, and the internet."

Lots of countries (most?) have beautiful official websites.

What might be missing from real-life geography could be the terminology and
reasoning behind it--"the midwest" in the U.S.; "The Middle East"

But for those definitions, an atlas with all kinds of regional maps would
help. Or a dictionary would help!

A family could keep a list of countries or a chart of flags or any sort of
"checklist" if they were really worried they would totally miss one country
or another. But in truth, if you end up knowing more about India than
Liberia, what will it hurt? There IS more history of India than of Liberia,
and a heck of a lot more people, and effect on the neighbors, etc.

Trying to find all of geography in one book will quite defeat the glory,
potential and purpose of unschooling.
