BlankSince I discovered unschooling a few months ago I have been wondering, thinking, reading, doubting, discussing and doubting some more. It sounded great, but I just could not feel quite comfortable about how it will happen for us.

And then this morning I could finally see it. I saw a bird in the garden which I was curious about so I looked it up in our bird book. My four-year old paged through the book with me and we just started talking about the birds. A few minutes later I was amazed at all the information that has been shared

Kiwis don't fly because their wings aren't strong enough
Ostriches can't fly either
Ostriches come from Africa
Kingfishers catch fish, but they eat lizards too
Baby birds stay in their eggs until they grow big enough
Eggs look all different, some have pretty spots on them
Baby gulls are pretty, white and fluffy
Terns make their nests in the sand
Water birds have webbed feet
Swallows go to a warmer continent in the winter

And on and on. Maybe just maybe we could pull this off too.

Let children read whatever they want and then talk about it with them. If parents and kids can talk together, we won't have as much censorship because we won't have as much fear - Judy Blume

That's the what I like about unschooling--how much I'm learning, along with
my son.
Sometimes I wonder --who's the teacher??? (him or me......)
have a great day
