Ah, you see? I can neither spell nor count nor fail to hit "send" too early,
and yet I have a college degree and I married and have reproduced. I have
held respectable jobs in the past (although at the moment I am a
housewife/mom-at-home), and I can drive an automobile and am safe with
matches and gas appliances.

Perhaps that is encouraging to some and to some they might think "She can't
even spell school."

Anybody know what's the safest way to transport or dispose of half of an
old can of kerosene? It's in a metal can that's just a wee bit rusted.

This is not a hypothetical question.

Thanks, Betsy

Does that mean I am not the dull and respectable
person I thought? Alright! Here is was lamenting the
other day that I was such a wild teen and I am so
settled and ordinary now, but I guess I am still as
disreputable as ever! What a relief!

I also can't spell either, as I sent a recent post
about our past involvement with a "palygroup" instead
of "playgroup." LOL

The feds mandated that counties/parishes etc. have a hazordous waste
disposal system in place by 2000. Check with your local waste disposal site
and they will/should have a place, know of a place and be able to tell you
the proper handling and disposal method.

Thanks, Lynda. I do have a date in June to take it for disposal. It just
makes me nervous carrying it sloshing around in the car (on the way to the
disposal site). Was wondering if there is any way to make it any safer.
Dh wanted to just leave it behind in our old garage, and was telling me
"it's like carrying dynamite in the car!" I didn't know if his fears were
grounded. When we move next time, everything will be in a moving van, and
I'm pretty sure it's not safe or legal to transport it in the back of the
van.

I do have a bil who's a chemist who makes rocket fuel for a living. I can
ask him for safety tips. (Duh... I tend to run to you guys with every
question.)

Hi Betsy,

Is there a hazardous waste facility in your area? For instance, my
husband is VP of a haz waste facility that processes bi-products of
industry. However, they maintain a Household Hazardous Waste station
where people can drop off things like kerosene and they'll dispose of
it safely. Check your yellow pages and call around. Good luck.
