This is very interesting to me since I have had trouble with depression since I was in high school, (17 yrs +). I have just recently tried Meridia, and had great success for a time.... Now, I have just put myself back on zoloft. St. John's Wort also helped....
I do doubt myself (in many things) and yes, much of it is tied in with my depression, but, I do know that this passes.... I get stronger in mind ect...
I am also, still, overweight... And I have also thought about a raw foods diet, but think it is not the thing. A "sensible diet" is the only way...along with regular exercise. I know this, but doing it is not an easy task for a person like me. I'm trying and doing my best, and am wishing you and your DH the best.
Thanks for sharing thoughts and feelings, as it helps others of us that are out there doing the same battle.

We are also overweight, so we can't eat too much, at least enough to get all the vitamins we need. We have looked into the raw-foods thing as well, but we don't have the discipline to eat just raw foods! I guess that's why we're overweight! My DH's psychiatric MD (the one that prescribes medicine) was also into alternative medicines as well as the traditional meds like Prozac. He wanted him to take a regimen of carbohydrate pills that was formulated to be broken down slowly and keep the level of

I admit that a whole raw diet is very difficult for many. I also think that almost everyone would benefit from MORE raw foods in the diet and more careful selection of the foods that are not raw. Those that initially benefit more from the raw foods are those whose digestion is somehow impaired - the extra enzymes are nothing short of miraculous. When I consume raw foods, the difference is amazing. As soon as I consume a cooked food item (still no sugar, preservatives, coloring, or processed food) I am sleepy and take naps! I hope that taking higher amounts of raw foods will eventually restore more balance to my digestive system so that eventually the cooked foods will not register such a draw on my digestive enzyme production.

Lynda,
Yes, to the greatest extent possible we use organic foods. It makes a big difference, and I now prefer it, tastewise. I am not sorry for our health struggles, as it led us to the unschooling path!
