Hi there Andi....counseling for the ADHD'er and his/her parents/guardians is
advised to help not only the child cope and learn new behaviors, but also
the adults in his/her life!!

Also, many times, ADHD does not exist alone...sometimes there is ODD or
OCD...(oppositional defiant disorder ...obsessive compulsive disorder) or LD
(learning disabilities) etc. All of the childs needs must be addressed.

In our experience, counseling with the psychologist helped my dh and I learn
some strategies for responding to our son (rather than reacting). It also
taught us how to role play with him...to teach him better social skills
(which are lacking in the ADHD kids I work with....I also tutor several
children in our area who are ADHD).
