Good point about the compartment desks. I have seen people put their tower units in a cabinet right against the back wall. How is the fan going to ventilate the unit when it is blocked for any air and enclosed on all sides?

In the old days (you know where I had to walk up hill both ways in the
blowing snow) all computers had to be kept in temperature and humidity
controlled rooms.  It was a nice place to be when you got really hot.
The people who worked in them wore sweaters all the time!

When I was a grad student at UCSC we had a room of PCs (the graphics lab) &
we all used to wear shorts and tank tops in there, even in winter!  The
computers didn't last too long either!  The profs just didn't pay attention
to our complaints about the heat.

I think computer hardware lasts longer if it is kept cooler or in a place
where the heat can disperse.  Some computer desks I've seen keep it all
in since the components have their nice little cubbies!
