Hi everyone. I've lurked for today and finally decided to say hey out there.

We stated homeschooling in the fall of 97. We dragged our way through kindergarden and couldn't get out fast enough. I substitute taught for five years and if that wasn't enough, kindergarden was!

We started with what I call school at home and seem to naturally slide into unschooling. Sometimes we will still do schoolly stuff but we've gradually gotten to the point that we seem to do just enough to produce paper so as to have school-looking stuff to show the evaluator or the school administration. Now that I see more and more how my children learn on their own or just as part of our living, I wonder how much more they would have learned or been open to learning had I accepted that they could be trusted to lead their own way. I'm there now and I don't look back.

Only my brother and mother are home/unschool supporters. My husband is all for homeschooling, but isn't so sure about unschooling. Since I gradually let certain lesson fall by the wayside, it made our school at home to unschooling transition less drastic, although I didn't plan it that way. We both are able to see how our children are learning and growing by living, it's just harder for him to accept.

Enough rambling.... I hope I've found a group of like minds.
