I think Montessori schools in the US have grown gradually more coercive and
pressured than they used to be. (Probably because parents paying "big bucks"
for tuition expect big band in return) However, the concepts of staying on
task and finishing what you start is straight from Maria's own writings.

I have a neice in 2nd grade in a Montessori school in Atlanta who is
currently suffering through timed multiplication drills. And a granddaughter
in Montessori preschool in Chicago who is being pressured to be more
sociable, and told it is not okay for her to decline group activities in
favor of quietly reading by herself.

Neither situation is my idea of an education worth spending big bucks for...

Is your relative in the montessori school in Hinsdale?
My husbands aunt worked thier and she left because it wasn't "Montessori" her words.
