Hi, Jennifer --

The laws governing education are different in every state. If you go to
the unschooling.com website, there is a section on the message boards where
you can ask questions about complying with your state laws.

You can find the complete laws at the NHEN.org website, also.

If you want to post here what state you are in, there may be someone on
this list who can give you a thorough answer.

I typed in the past but I never really got any
replies. I am planning on homeschooling my son next
year and he will be in kindergarten. I plan to file
religious exempt. My main question is how do I begin.
I want to go about this right and I don't want to run
into legal problems, etc. I know I need to write a
letter with my goals, etc but am not quite sure how to
word it. Does anyone have any advice? Jennifer

***What state are you in? You may not have to do anything at this age, since
many states do not require attendance until age 6 or 8.

Jennifer,
First of all, where are you located? The homeschooling laws vary from state to state in the US, and also differ in other countries

I am from VA. My son is five now and turns six in
January. I don't plan to start until next September.
