**We've been rather busy here today dealing with the earthquake. I left my
kids home alone for half an hour while I went to the library. Cristina (11)
got her sisters under the kitchen table with little screaming. :)

Everyone's okay...sounds like less than 50 people have been admitted to
hospitals so far. Lots of damage to roads, bridges, brick
buildings...landslides, rockslides...stuff you'd expect.

Glad you're all OK and they aren't too shaken up! Well
done that girl, make her a milkshake for me!! Must
have been a day for disasters of one kind or another,
very bizarre rail crash about 80 miles from here killed
13 people, left 30-ish seriously injured early this
morning. I didn't know anyone on it, but it's still
scary...

I havent seen the news today, so hadnt heard about the earthquake.
Glad to hear you are all OK - I have only ever experienced a small
tremor. The thought of actually being in an earth quake scares me to
death
Tracy, you must live not far from my family in England as my sister
emailed me last night and told me about the accident just outside
SELBY. My sister lives in Barlow. My father in Riccall and my
daughter in Flaxton.

LOL more then likely! But all they have to do is rewatch the 12 hours of
local news that was on today! Talk about overkill! There wasnt even any
damage in Portland!

**The only private property damage I've heard of is in the Maple
Valley/Issaquah area and the Salmon Beach area of Tacoma, due to landslides.
Chances are if your friends live where it's flat, they're okay. :)

That's the other side of Yorkshire... Flaxton's up

So sorry!! <G> I hear we also brought your drought... I left 110 degree
summers to come to what I thought would be rain, and enjoyed the most
spectacular summer and fall up here... please to forgive!!! :->

Wow! Some travel and some history in this area! That is great. Is your
family connected to it's history here? Do you have fun/interesting stories
of your ancestors in the area? I did some biological searching and
discovered that my birth mothers family were some of the original Scottish
settlers in Montana. That was some fun reading!

Ivan Doig wrote three neat novels about Scottish friends settling in
Montana. I had to read the first one because of the tempting title
_Dancing at the Rascal Fair_. The third book, which has a modern setting,
with some genealogical references back to the first book is called _Ride
with Me Mariah Montana_. (The middle book was less memorable.)

Ds and I are sitting here laughing our butts off! I'm sorry, but it has
tickled our funny bone. I sent two empty messages, I think, and then a third
explaining what happened. I don't know if anyone had patience enough to open
the third. I feel like the boy who cried wolf! Now if we do have an
earthquake, no one will listen LOL

Again, I'm sorry.

I only got one empty one so far.

One day I was on instant message with a friend in Seattle right after the
earthquake (lately) and he said it had stopped. He's from northern Germany.
I was asking him whether he was aware of aftershocks when he said it's
starting again, I feel it in my chair, and then he was just offline. EEEK!
That was scary.
