There is a ridgeback rescue?? I have heard of the greyhound rescue but what
is happening to ridgebacks that they need help?

Hello Cath,

It isn't any single breed, there are organizations for all purebred dogs that are usually organized by the breed clubs.  They discourage puppy mills and backyard breeders and encourage responsible dog ownership.  They usually have agreements with the local shelters to take any purebred dog that comes in (breed of choice or some take all).  They also run ads to let people know they will take purebred dogs rather than have them taken to shelters.  A lot of them sponsor spay and neuter clinics.  All the dogs they take in they spay or neuter and then they keep them until they find appropriate homes for them.

TLC did a story not too long ago about one of these groups and how they placed a couple of dogs.  They do telephone trees and then set up car pools to get dogs to new owners.

Also, an offshot of this is the feral cat folks who go out and trap feral cats, spay or neuter them and give them shots.
