Hi Kerry. I live in Mass. Have you signed up for the Mass. homeschoolers
list at egroups? http://www.egroups.com/group/MAhomeschoolers
Are you looking for any particular information?

well.. I'd like to know how to unschool without
getting in trouble with the school system. I'd also
like to get together with someone in my area. I do
belong to a homeschooling co-op, but I think I'm the
only one unschooling.
I joined the email group, thanks for the info.

Valerie, Are you in Massachusetts as well?  We use Clonlara to report to the school system and so far have not had a problem.  -Rue

Hi Rue,

No, I am not in Mass. but my son's biological father is from Mass., he has not been involved in my sons life really until I started homeschooling.
Now he wants reports and everything.
We live in Mich. and the rules are very different.
I was just wondering how the people from Mass. handled it.
I did checking and found that Mass. is very very strict.
We have been  homeschooling for awhile and have decided more on unschooling because it involves (to us) more of hands-on and always learning wherever we are.
So, I was just curious how Mass. homeschoolers handled unschooling there.

Valerie - Each town in Massachusetts can make their own rules, within certain guidelines.  It can be difficult depending on what town you live in, and what the superintendent in your town thinks of homeschooling.  Last year we lived in a different town and kept a daily journal.  When we moved this year we joined Clonlara. Clonlara encourages unschooling and handles all communication with your local superintendent. (I don't think they'll handle your son's father though :)).    We have to submit a "plan" to the school committee for approval, and then send Clonlara two reports per year.  So far it is working well for us, although we wish we didn't have to report to anyone.  - Rue

Kerry, I posted to you on the MA Homeschoolers list. The list is a
mixture of structured homeschoolers and unschoolers, and is pretty
quiet right now. The support groups in our area are mixtures as
well, with most families being somewhere in the middle of the
spectrum.
