Please note that The Onion is a parody site. This is not a real
news story. The Onion is a very liberal left wing daily ezine that
makes fun of the Republicans (and anyone else including
Democrats) as much as they can.

That aside, the salary of the President is only $200K. However,
there are lots of funds set up for the President such as
entertainment fees, free transportation and protection, gift fees, etc.
Some heads of state in other countries don't have the luxury of a
huge mansion with paid utilities and chauffered limosines. They
live in a flat or house somewhere in the city and commute just like
John Q. Public to work everyday. I remember reading how the PM
of Sweden road the bus to work every day. I can't imagine how
anyone would need more than $200K a year to live when everything
is paid for you. The President even gets a clothing allowance.

Back to Lurking.

And a pension plan that is topped by none! Plus a million perks once out of

Oops. I think you got that wrong. The Onion is neither liberal nor
conservative. It's arguably the best example of modern satire in this
country. Before The Onion, you would have had to go to Britain for such
quality satire.

The point of the article was to satirize our culture's obsession with money.
It also satirizes how we seem to care "what's in it for me" more than what
we can do for others. The bit about the presidential salary was just the
vehicle to do that. Nothing more.
