Michelle Leifur Reid

I know this is an odd request, but Keon is trying to find a way that
he can keep up with his money himself without having to recount it all
the time. I thought a spreadsheet would work well, but wanted
something that he could just enter in the number of individual pieces
of currency in and get a total at the end. Before I go re-inventing
the wheel I thought I would ask if anyone already has such a critter.
Basically he wants to be able to put in that he has 3 $5 bills and 17
quarters and 20 dimes and be told that he has $21.25 (I think I got
that right LOL!) And then be able to add later that he found 2
nickels and 3 pennies and have it update the total for him without him
having to reconfigure all the numbers. Does that make sense? If I
sit down long enough I can maybe come up with something (currently we
did a quick and dirty one where a+b+c+...+g=X but he has to actually
say he has $15 in $5 bills, and $4.25 in quaters, etc. )

Michelle - excel challenged but I can do it if I have to :-D

Hi, Michelle,

I just put a little one together and will email it to you directly as an
attachment. It's a pretty simple one but I think it will do the trick - a
separate column for the number of each item (pennies, nickels, etc.) and
then a column where that number is multiplied by the currency value (.01,
.05, etc.). Hope it helps!

Hi there,

Not sure if this spreadsheet is what you're lookin' for, but you may want to
have a look anyway:

ps/ Google Spreadsheets (which is what you should get clicking on the above
link) are, in my humble opinion, more intuitive than Microsoft Excel
(simpler interface, basically). Therefore, it might be easier to start
learning spreadsheet calculations by using them instead of Excel. Just a
personal opinion, though.
