The kids (including my 2 boys) and I were watching a really fun Barbie movie last night and Barbie said a line that really struck me.  She was offering her sister Stacey some support and guidance in how Stacey might have better results riding her horse.  Stacey was lamenting over how she was not able to control her horse the way she could control a skateboard, wake board, and other inanimate objects.  Barbie responded with this sage advice:
"Stacey, she's ( the horse) a living, breathing thing with her own feelings.  Maybe you should try to work with her instead of controlling her. Make friends.  Find out what she wants.  And these sugar cubes won's hurt."

I cried out loud when I heard that!  I said to the kids "wow!  Barbie is an unschooler!  That's what I'm learning to do too!"

And how apropos that she offers the horse some sugar cubes at the end.  I've often read that as radical unschoolers, we are trying to make life a little sweeter for our children.  I think of that often throughout my days.

My relationship with Barbie has been cemented :-).

Warmly,
Megan
