German petition to exempt homeschooling from punishment
drmohde
Hi everybody,
many of you might be aware of the fact that homeschooling is still illegal in Germany. There is now an online petition to the German government, running until June 16th, requesting homeschooling to be legalized. Anybody can sign the petition, irrespective of their age, nationality or place of residence. Please help us get as many signatures as possible:
https://epetitionen.bundestag.de/index.php?action=petition;sa=details;petition=11495
All necessary explanations in English:

Thank you so much for your support!!!
Best wishes from Germany,
Stefanie

In one of the articles on that site there's a falsehood, repeated:
-=-Homeschooling is legal in the U.S. and many other countries. It was
developed in fundamental Christian circles, mainly in rural regions of
America. As a rule, at 14, the children go to a state-approved schools
and do their examinations. Even in Austria homeschooling is tolerated.
-=-
Fundamentalist Christian homeschoolers claim to have created
homeschooling. HSLDA claims that. John Holt's book and magazine pre-
date the fundamentalist Christian homeschooling movement.

Hi Sandra,
I can't find the article you mention, but that sounds definitely wrong. Like in the US, we have two main groups in Germany who would really like to get rid of compulsory schooling. One group are some fundamental Christians, and the other group are unschoolers and people who would like more educational freedom for their children, because they cannot cope with school as it is. I think the "educatinggermany" site is from a Christian person, I don't have any information about the owner. I just included it because of the translation for the petition, so people could understand if they want to support us. As long as we still face the situation of homeschooling being illegal, we absolutely need to work together for our goal, Christians, unschoolers, everybody here in Germany who thinks homeschooling should be a legal choice for every family.

I registered and have yet to get a confirmation email so that I can
sign the petition. Not sure why. Also for the country, there was
nothing for US or Vereinigte Staaten. Did anybody else from the US
have trouble or get through?

I tried, but the page was completely in German and I don't know how to read or speak German. It wouldn't accept my password, so I just gave up.

Hi Katherine,
yes, you get an email and need to click on the link. At "Land" you can write "USA" or "US" or whatever you please. At "Bundesland" you could choose "Ausland" at the bottom of the list or just not enter anything. Several people from the US have already signed the petition.

Sorry to be a party pooper here, but no more about the petition,
please, as it's political and regional and not directly about
unschooling. For anyone who wants to share it privately or otherwise,
there are enough links in this thread, which will be in the archives.
