NY unschooling
Arlynn Liebster
I live in Nassau County, Long Island, New York. Are there any unschoolers
about my area? It doesn't seem so at first glance, but then again I don't
look the part either. My dh just got back from a trip to Phoenix and wants
to move, we both love AZ. I just can't handle the upheaval at this point. I
am wondering what I am getting myself into by staying on LI trying to raise
our children as free spirits. They are so happy now at 2.5 yo. I know they
won't really fit in where we live the way we are raising them. But I am also
wondering if they will really fit in anywhere at all. I sort of never did
and neither did my dh until we found each other. I had a blast in my life,
but always sort of detached. I was hoping my kids could really *connect*
somewhere. Just searching for wisdom over the back fence here. <g> -Arlynn

Arlynn,
There is an unschooling support group meeting monthly in lower hudson valley area, just north of Manhattan. One of the realities of homeschooling is the willingness to travel for social activities with other homeschoolers. I travel south about 45 mins to get together with this group. Though there are other unschoolers closer and we do things together, i find it satisfying to be a part of this ongoing group of families. If you want more information contact me off list. There are several lower westchester families with young children who attend. It may not be too much of a ride to connect with them on a semi regular basis.
