We have a volunteer here. I had this GORGEOUS gourd growing out of the manure
pile. It had huge, beautiful, orange flowers every morning, but no fruit. I
was *just* about ready to pull up the monster when we saw ONE gourd that had
just appeared. It looked like a watermelon for the longest time. We were
wondering when we should pick it---when it suddenly started to turn orange! OOPS! So
we have one pumpkin. Really neat volunteer!

We start planting in late March early April (College Prep!). My beans are
desperate for a picking, and we are getting ready for a glut of tomatoes. But
there's rarely a problem getting rid of 'maters here. We can eat them at every
meal and for snacks. I've promised Sandra one or two! <g>

This is the first year I've actually had cucumbers that have GROWN. Before
we've only gotten little round things. Must be the remedial/special ed. They are
beautiful & delicious this year!

Berries are about spent. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, figs, &
thornless blackberries (If anyone wants one of the thornless blackberries, put in
your order. I need to thin it out. You can pick it up at the
conference!)----are all about picked. Apples due soon. We didn't have *any* plums this year
:-( I guess they're just "retarded"! <g>

I'm glad to hear that your vegetables are putting in their "mandatory volunteer" hours. That should teach them to become good citizens when they grow up.

Wow you guys, I can't imagine planting anything in the end of July, how
nice! I'm in Minnesota, so short growing season :)

I would also take some extra squash Deb! <g>

We built this house, that we are living in and were particular about not
taking out too many trees. I love trees. But...didn't think about the
fact that if you have lots of trees, you don't have much sun and,, hence,
no place for a garden :(

I did get to grow some tomatoes on our deck last year but you can only do so
much there!

So as far as growing things right now, its been flowers around the house.
(and weeds)

I'm trying to figure out where we can take out some more trees though! And
then we have to put up a 6-9 foot fence to keep the deer out!

Kelli~

I want a thornless blueberry plant. Can you mail it?

It's thornless blackberry. You still want it? Blueberries are already
thornless! <G>

Where do you live, Joylyn? Maybe I could send it home with someone who's
coming to the conf---if someone lives nearby.

I live in Garden Grove, and the conference about which *I* am talking is
the HSC one. I'd love to get it then, but it would have to survive two
weeks in the car afterwards....

Did you already arrange this? If it is small, I'll bring it home with
me. Could I do that on an airplane? Is it legal to cross state lines
with it? <G>
