NOTE TO SELF: "Sandra Dodd speaking at New Mexico Family Educators conference in 1996" is in the original notes. Find out whether it was 1996 or 1997.

What Teachers Know that You Don't Know

"What Teachers Know that You Don't Know" was presented at the New Mexico Family Educators' Celebration of Natural Learning, March 21 & 22, 1997, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The description of the talk in the program was
Homeschoolers sometimes express concern that "real teachers" (or former teachers) can homeschool better or more easily than "non-teachers" can. This workshop will encourage and reassure homeschoolers by demystifying the secret knowledge of teachers.
It was fairly much a comedy routine with a stick, so I'll try to describe some of what you can't see. The annotation is from late 2008. The transfer of the tape to a digital file was done by Lauren Stranahan, who also transferred the more important talk on Peaceful Parenting (at the bottom of that page).
The recording will go to side 2 when side 1 is finished (both on the same player).

Transcription and notes coming someday, maybe.

And I'll try to find photos of what my kids looked like in 1997, too, for context.

The second side of the tape has a LOT of microphone-moving-around noise at the beginning, and that's irritating, but it gets clearer. This is the post-talk Q&A part, and the story about Chris at the technology club is the voice of his mom, Carol Rice-McClure (now Carol Rice), one of my early mentors. Sorry about the microphone noise.
