So true, Robin! I've noticed this with my older kids as well. People
talk about how hard the teen years are and it doesn't feel that way at all to
me. I know it's all due to unschooling...no peer pressure, no bullying
issues, no pressure on my part to keep up with a ton of schoolwork that is
crammed for and then forgotten, etc.
In some ways, I enjoy my kids more and more as they get older because we
have so many common interests and they are such interesting people to talk
to. But I also love the unique aspects of the littler ones as well...My
older kids didn't start off as homeschoolers and I used to miss them a lot
when they were in school in years past. I was always glad when summer or
Christmas vacation started. It's sad to me that so many families get so used
to not being around each other that the parents say they can't wait till the
kids get back to school again.

Lucy...it'll just get better too. The friendship that Laurie and I
share now is of two adults...I can't imagine ever being closer to
anyone. She's my baby and my best friend.

This was became evident to me the other day in
Wal-Mart with my 10 year old. We were shopping
for sandals. He really wanted the(i don't know
what to call them but i think you all will know
what i mean) the Jesus Sandals. As he put them
in the cart he made a statement that had a great
impact on me. He said, "You know, I am really
glad that we don't go to school anymore. Casey
(his male friend) got a pair of these, and they
all teased him. Said they were girl shoes. You
know Mom, kids can be very ignorant and rude!" I
said yes Jacob they can. To which he replied,
"Look at us though, Mom, we can study what we
want, and now I can wear what shoes I want. This
is really just TOOOOOOOO SWEEEEET!

I think we have come pretty far in the 3 months
since I pulled them out of public school!

Kim,

Your son sounds a lot like mine. Being out of school is making our life
so much more pleasant. I am glad to see there is another unschooler in
Mo.
Norma
in East Central Mo.

Norma in East Central Missouri,

I am in East Central Missouri as well. Maybe we
are close and could get together! I am South of
St. Louis and North of Farmington and East of
Ste. Genevieve! Does any of this sound familiar?
If so let me know and we can email off of the
list if you like! I hope we are close, sometimes
I feel alone and would love to get together with
others who are doing what we do!!!!!! :-)
